PCSolve is pleased to announce that it has signed up to assist in distributed computing with www.grid.org.
The idea is very simple in that you download a small file and this then connects to the main server and downloads a work file to your computer which is a small part of a larger project. Your computer will then process this file over a period of time and once complete the results are sent back over the internet and a new file downloaded. The beauty of the process is that whenever you are using your computer the file is processed, however it does not affect the computer's performance, even whilst playing games. It has been designed to reduce it's processing power when you want to use the computer and increase when your computer is idle, that way it does not interfere with your normal everyday tasks.

To us at PCSolve this is just as much a practical way of helping in the fight against diseases like cancer as donating money, and in fact we believe it is a more practical way for the majority of people to assist. I have read that recently a company that incorporated distributed computing as part of their normal IT set up actually processed 3 years worth of research work within it's first week of operation.
